Battery-operated car service launched

Initiative to help differently-abled and elderly persons reach various govt. offices

A battery-operated car service to transport differently-abled persons and elderly persons from the Collectorate bus stop to various government offices in and around the Collectorate campus was launched on Monday.

Collector K.S. Kandasamy launched the service by driving the car carrying a group of differently abled and elderly persons from the bus stop to the Collectorate campus.

The vehicle that costs ₹7 lakh was launched to enable the differently abled and the elderly persons reach the several government offices functioning in and around the Collectorate premises.

The facility will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on working days. It will be operated every 20 minutes. There are a total of 58,000 differently-abled persons in Tiruvannamalai district. Of this, 7,000 received assistance through the District Differently-Abled Welfare Office, according to a press release.

Officials said there are plans to purchase another battery-operated car to enable shuttle service.
